How to read music? Singing sheet music

How to sing with your diaphragm? Breathe

Many singing teachers keep saying to breathe with your diaphragm, but what does that mean exactly? Breathing well is one of the most important parts in singing learning as this technique will make you perform longer phrases with less muscular effort. Beginners singers, are used to use only the muscles from our chest, but actually, trying to activate muscles for your back and your stomach (diaphragm) will make you take more air in less time. It’s just about efficiency.

How to sing better? Vocal technique class

Sometimes, singing technique is understimated, and this, is a huge mistake. A bad singing technique may derive into an injury to both amateur and professional singers. Moreover, a good technique will make you learn how to sing better, thus, have a more beautiful sound, sing with no effort and reach higher notes.

My methodology - Singing Lessons and Vocal Coaching

Find your own voice, what does it mean? The guidance for technical development is important, but nevertheless to bring to the surface the artistic values in one. To perform you need to know, what do you want to say. The technics will help you tools to express that what you want to say. Like a toolkit. Did you know, that while you sing, you use not just your vocal-chords, but your whole body? That is why, being conscious about your body as a whole instrument always should be part of your education. As a teacher myself I always start my classes with physical warmups for the areas needed directly for singing, but I usually encourage my students, to be aware of the changes in their body, and how they effects their performance (not just directly to your voice, but also, on the mood and the mindset. Warmups are not just important for your body, but directly for your vocal-chords, so usually I also pay attention to do it well with my students. Some of them enjoy the more technical warmups, but I know that, for some,  more creative exercises are required, to keep their attention on the task. There is nothing wrong with you, if you can’t follow the traditional approach, as for studies in general there are people who are not learning things in the traditional way. Pedagogy is only working if we admit: there is more than just one way to reach the same knowledge.

The rest of the lessons really differ from one person to another. Since we all are different, we need to bring out our own strength and work on our own weaknesses. Of course usually we work on songs, for everybody’s surprise, unless the students themselves
request otherwise, for special technical or theoretical training. The songs are usually chosen by the students, and I encourage them to do so. Except if they need to learn a set of repertoire, or if they are clueless on what to bring.

Find your own voice does not mean, that you have a voice inside decided by fate. Of course you have some physical boundaries, one can’t change their own body, bur working on your voice regularly, might surprise you, how much hidden qualities it can hold. You have the choice to use them, or not. As a vocal coach, and artistic guide, my job is to give you the choices, yours is to decide, which one to use.
